Gardenstown in situated on the Aberdeenshire and Moray Coastal Trail, a growth area for tourism in Scotland, but still retaining the charm of a relatively undiscovered area. There is currently considerable investment in the area's tourism industry - for instance work has started on the Banff Marina, 8 miles away from Captains Cottage. Link to http://www.discovergardenstown.co.uk/ for more information about tourism development, the local area and attractions.
Our cottage is relatively unusual in Gardenstown in that it is large enough to sleep 5-6 whilst still being very close to the harbour and sea, in the most characterful part of the village. Most properties in this part of the village sleep a maximum of 2-4. We also haev on street parking to the fromt and rear, again rare. Many of the character properties in Gardenstown have no vehicular access at all!
Please note this property is for sale through a local agent (see http://www.stewartwatson.co.uk/data/2652.pdf for full details and additional internal photos). The Scottish system is slightly different from the English system of buying a house and means that you have to offer OVER the advertised price (usually 5-20% depending on the market at the time and the level of interest) with properties often going to a closing date and selling to the highest (sealed) bidder.
This is the property information given on our www.holidaylets.net webpage for advertising to potential guests:
Captains Cottage is a traditional terraced fishermans cottage in Gardenstown (known locally as Gamrie), a pretty village on the Moray Firth Coast. Accomodation is spread over three floors and retains many traditional features including open fire and sash windows. With two double bedrooms and a cosy 'cabin' room (ideal for kids wanting an exciting holiday experience but big enough to sleep an adult) the cottage sleeps 5-6 comfortably.
Gardenstown nestles at the foot of dramatic red cliffs and looks out over Gamrie Bay and Mohr Head. There is a beautiful harbour metres from the front door, a sandy beach and plenty of rock pools and pebbly stretches to keep kids amused. There is a tiny and locally famous restaurant overlooking the harbour as well as a cafe serving food throughout the day and into the evening, a local pub, a butchers, two convenience stores, one of which doubles as a bakery, a post office, a petrol station, a gift shop/gallery and a photographic gallery. Not far away are the seabirds of Troup Head (a new RSPB reserve) including a magnificent colony of breeding gannets, the heritage town of Banff (15 minutes by car - two supermarkets), Duff Country House and Gallery, the Fraserburgh Lighthouse Musuem, as well as numerous whisky distilleries, golf courses, castles and other attractions. Not to mention amazing countryside and coastal scenery everywhere you look with chances of sighting dolphins and whales in the bay!
